Workplace-Based Assessment Resources
The College of Medical Associate Professionals is committed to supporting high standards of professional practice, lifelong learning, and continuous development for Medical Associate Professionals.
The workplace-based assessment (WPBA) tools available on this page have been developed to support structured feedback, reflective practice, and the assessment of clinical competence across a range of professional activities. These assessments are aligned with the principles of Good Medical Practice and the CMAPs capabilities framework, providing a consistent approach to documenting performance and identifying areas for development.
The resources include:
- Mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercise (Mini-CEX) – assessment of clinical encounters through direct observation.
- Case-Based Discussion (CBD) – evaluation of clinical reasoning, decision-making, and patient management.
- Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS) – assessment of practical and procedural competencies.
- Multi-Source Feedback (MSF) – Colleagues – structured feedback from members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Multi-Source Feedback (MSF) – Patients – feedback from patients regarding communication, professionalism, and quality of care.
These tools may be used for workplace learning, appraisal, portfolio development, supervision, and demonstrating ongoing professional development. CMAPs encourages regular use of these assessments to support reflective practice and maintain high standards of patient-centred care.
